Democracy in Africa cannot be strengthened if the majority of countries are still lagging behind in passing access to information legislations. Noting that Africa as a continent has been engulfed with serious cases of corruption that has serious adverse affects on national development, the passing of Freedom of Information legislation can be one avenue that can curtail such practices as it guarantees good governance, transparency and accountability. FAJ as a continental organization must therefore make itself visible in the frontline of the Freedom of Information campaign. Journalists have a huge stake in making information sources open and readily available. This move can equally promote ethical journalism and reduce unwarranted judicial proceedings against journalists. Within the next three years FAJ must intensify its work with the African Union and other partners in the campaign on Freedom of Information.
