The 2011 Kigali Conference on Media and Gender has no doubt ignited the need to push forward gender equality in the unions and in the work of FAJ. During the last three years some significant work has been done, most especially with regards to the establishment of the FAJ Gender Council. However, most of the desired objectives are yet to be realized.  Gender Equality like the safety and security of journalists must also be seen as a top priority for FAJ in the next three years, in order to complete the task that kicked off recently, mostly especially in empowering female journalists  in leadership skills and training them on trade unions management.
